Project Spotlight

The former Lake City Plaza located on West Main Street was once home to the popular retail companies, Belk, Maxway, Piggly Wiggly and others. However, these companies have relocated or left the City leaving behind a 100,000 or more square foot building that is rapidly deteriorating. The City along with our partner the Greater Lake City Community Development Office (GLCCDO) have been working diligently to complete environmental assessments and develop a beneficial reuse of this property for all Lake City residents. This 10 acre property has a lot of potential and a bright future.

Accomplishments

  • Acquisition of Property by GLCCDO
  • Completion of Asbestos Abatement
  • Completion of Asbestos Survey
  • Completion of Phase I ESA
  • Completion of Phase II ESA
  • DHEC Voluntary Cleanup Contract
  • Finalized Redevelopment Plans
  • Initiated Demolition

Coming Soon

The GLCCDO in partnership with the Florence Darlington Technical College (FDTC) plan to build a 40,000 square foot campus building on the former Lake City Plaza property. The FDTC campus will focus on culinary arts and hospitality, while also providing space for healthcare programs, welding, and other trades and crafts works. The new campus is scheduled to open January 2019.
